Feminists are afraid of going down the slippery slope of holding women accountable for anything. I’ve already had someone tweet: “why do we not examine male’s attitudes about rape instead of women’s dress?” As I replied, it’s not either or. Go ahead and think creatively about ways of deterring or discouraging rape. But if you’re a woman at risk, you don’t really have the luxury of waiting until these re-education programs work. And there’s only one way to be safe now, and that’s to keep yourself safe. Don’t tempt men whose attitudes are criminal now and not changing anytime soon.

While I can agree that the young woman’s behavior was imprudent, this was a college campus which offers a false sense of security. The men were strangers, but not random strangers they were her classmates, people she would more than likely see again and probably had seen before the party.
I agree, which is all the more reason for women to be extra careful. Given that sexual assault on campuses are commonplace, it makes no sense to view a classmate as legit just because they happen to be enrolled at the same institution. That’s why I said women should not go anywhere with any guy whose character she cannot personally vouch for.
Women dating online rarely give out their address until they’ve gotten to know someone – they meet them for coffee, drinks, whatever. The reason is obvious – they might be meeting up with a serial killer. Well, guess what? The guys they’re afraid of were on campus a short while ago, and if they’re criminals now they were criminals then.
The sense of security that women have on campus is entirely false. It’s never safe to sleep over at a stranger’s house unless you are well surrounded by people you trust.
